Hamstring Injury

Hamstring Injury

The Hamstring is a group of muscles on the back of the thigh, attached to the lower part of the pelvis and to the shinbones below the knee joint. The Hamstring function is the bend the knee and straighten the hip.

Most injuries to the Hamstring occur from an imbalance between the Quadriceps (front of the thigh) and the Hamstring muscles. Quadriceps are very strong, large muscles that may forcibly overstretch the Hamstring which puts excess tension on the Hamstring muscles causing a strain. This happens most when sudden movement or force is applied to the Hamstring muscles.

Hamstring injury is most frequently seen in sports like AFL or Tennis where twisting, jumping, running and fast stopping occur. Warming up before exercise, flexibility and strengthening of the Hamstring muscles will assist to lower Hamstring injury risk.

Bodyassist’s range of support products may alleviate discomfort and provide additional support and compression to assist with swift recovery from injury.
