Sacroiliac Joint (SIJ) & Sciatica

Sacroiliac Joint (SIJ) & Sciatica

The Sacroiliac Joints (SIJ) are the essential connection from the lower spine to the pelvis. The Sacrum (tailbone) is connected on both the right and left side of the pelvic bone to form the Sacroiliac Joints. This joint is reasonably stiff with small movement due to the important weight bearing force on this area of the body.

SIJ pain is most commonly caused by stiffness due to lack of movement, or muscle weakness caused by excessive use and overstretching. Pain from a weakened or overused SIJ can cause additional discomfort if the Sciatic nerves near the lower spine are impacted, causing nerve pain to radiate from the buttock down the back of the thigh.

Bodyassist’s range of support products may alleviate discomfort and provide additional support and compression to assist with swift recovery from injury.
