Sprained Ankle

Sprained Ankle

Sprained ankles are one of the most common injuries as a result of sporting activity. Sprains occur when the ankle ligament connecting bone to bone is torn or stretched. This injury most commonly occurs with jumping, turning or twisting movements as seen in sports like soccer, AFL, tennis, hockey and dancing.

Suspected risks to spraining the ankle are variable, ranging from uneven playing surface, wearing inappropriate footwear or an inadequate warm up before intense exercise.

Known preventions to assist in mitigating the risks of spraining the ankle are simple and easy solutions such as a lace up ankle brace or applying kinesiology sport tape before partaking in sport activity.
